CONTOUR PLANTERS
The creation of large-scale ceramic vessels presents a fundamental challenge: potters are constrained by their physical reach. To overcome this limitation, artisans divide substantial works into segments that are later assembled into a unified structure. Traditionally, these joining lines are meticulously blended away, creating an illusion of one seamless object.
In my “Contour" collection, I deliberately embrace these natural divisions as design elements. Each thrown segment becomes an opportunity for directional change, allowing the vessel's silhouette to evolve with intention at each junction. The height and shape of each hand-thrown section directly influences the pot's overall contour and character.
The surface features carved topographical lines that trace these shifts in form, highlighting the dynamic movement between segments, transforming a technical necessity into an aesthetic statement that honors the handmade process.
